Audiences are thrilled for the horror series Welcome to Derry, which is earning acclaim and incorporating elements from other Stephen King works. Following the premiere, HBO declared that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, scheduled ideally for the spookiest night.

Beginning on the last day of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, episode two of Welcome to Derry will launch on HBO's online platform, prior to its Sunday HBO premiere. Subsequent episodes of the series run will continue to air on the weekend on both HBO and its streaming arm, building toward the final episode on Sunday, December 14.

Taking place within Stephen King’s It universe, the new series draws from the original story while expanding on the world brought to life by the It movie director in the two It films. It Chapter One focused on young characters battling terrifying threats, thus it's suitable that the prequel follows in those footsteps. However, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry shows it set out to raise the stakes, delivering even more intense scares than the movies and creating a brutal tone for the rest of the season.

Story World and Concepts

Taking place in the 1960s, the program features a fresh cast of parents and youngsters living in a seemingly idyllic town hiding a dark secret. This place follows a brutal, periodic loop—one marked by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence returns once every three decades. Although Welcome to Derry might seem like it skews too close to the cinematic adaptations at first, what sets apart the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—told from the eyes of both children and adults at the same time. Younger characters are particularly vulnerable to It's terror, but older characters don't escape facing their personal demons stemming from local discrimination and hidden paranormal elements.
