🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Movement Mechanics Are Going Mainstream This Season The game developers have a special treat in store for the popular battle royale gamers, arriving just in time for festive season. Fans of this game's highly fluid movement can rejoice to learn that a new movement mechanic is being implemented when the Amped season goes live on November 4th. Introducing Mantle Boosting Named "Mantle Boosting" by the developers, this feature gives players a burst of propulsion when scaling obstacles. As explained key developer the design lead, Mantle Boosting has unofficially been a feature of the game for some time, often called as "ledge boosting." But it's no easy feat for the average player, and is mainly used by competitive players in competitive play or esports competitions. This season, the team is making it easier for everyone to successfully perform these advanced movement boosts. "Mantle Boosts have been in Apex for a while, but the movement isn't easy to pull off and a player would never know it [is in the game] without outside knowledge," Canavese explains. "We're adding a Mantle Boost indicator so players can easily see the timing to trigger the fast-paced movement ability, making accessible the mechanic and introducing fresh strategies to compete for a much wider base." Why Make It Accessible Why make a once niche movement quirk available to all players? Principal designer Josh Mohan explains the team wants gamers to experience empowerment — including ones who are inexperienced. "Our community performs advanced techniques like super-glides and tap-strafing, and we examined at our competition, observed what the community are doing, and we wondered, 'How can we provide these capabilities to a broader audience?'" the designer explains. "Since right now, some of these techniques are kind of janky to access — it requires to remap your keybinds and hit precise timings. We proposed, 'What if we make a more official implementation?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Movement is primarily the central theme in Season 27, with Legends Horizon, Rampart, and the aerial combatant all getting buffs to help keep them in motion. Recovery time on her tactical ability has been decreased, and this skill will propel users upward faster than it used to. Her defensive walls feature overhead protection and capability to provide speed boosts to those nearby. However the spotlight is on the high-flying this Legend receiving the most attention now, with various adjustments implemented to make her stronger, quicker, and deadlier. "In my opinion there's quite a consensus that Valkyrie's time has arrived," states Legend designer Ian Holstead. "Certainly she was top-tier in the past, but with the introduction of other characters, mobility perks, and Evac Towers, it felt like she fell behind in today's Apex. It was an ideal chance for us to revisit multiple elements in her abilities and sort of restore her to former prominence." Valkyrie's Upgrades To restore her competitive status in current strategies, Holstead notes the team assessed each of her abilities and introduced some powerful modifications. Her jetpack have been upgraded, boosting her speed while airborne, and the jets themselves now recharge much quicker, allowing the player to spend more time in the air. She can no longer take damage from her own Missile Swarm, which has also been upgraded to mark opponents who are hit from the missiles. Her squad redeploy skill — which lifts teammates into the air for repositioning or escape — now takes much less time to fire up. She's also getting some new perk choices that players can select to conserve resources, expand the spread of her Missile Swarm, or further speed up her Skyward Dive activation. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills the pilot experience," Holstead says. Olympus Improvements Additionally, the only floating arena, Olympus, receives a mobility-focused facelift, with an extensive redesign that expands choke points and renders securing elevated positions a bit less daunting. Respawn says Apex Legends this update focuses on providing gamers the tools they need to keep up with matches. "Really, we examined the game's core identity as a movement shooter," says principal designer the lead. Apex Legends the Amped season releases November 4th at the specified times.
